BBC to launch Global iPlayer for iPad users in 2011

BBC Worldwide plans to make BBC iPlayer available to iPad users in certain target markets in mid-2011, reports the Financial Times. The Global iPlayer is currently in pilot form until it secures approval from the BBC Trust. Luke Bradley-Jones, managing director of BBC.com, said the Global iPlayer would be targeted at early technology adopters with an interest in BBC programmes. He said there would be a monthly subscription for the Global iPlayer, with the US one of the first markets to get the service.
