Russian mobile operator Beeline has signed an agreement on a strategic partnership with the Russian company Metrocom, working under the Ovropower brand. The three-year deal will see the companies cooperate on developing and implementing projects using VR/AR on 5G networks. The cooperation will also cover the IoT (Internet of Things).
Beeline will provide its partner with access to one of its pilot 5G areas in the country. Developing games and services, Metrocom will focus on educational games and simulators, as well as on AR films. The best projects will be integrated into products and services from Beeline.
In July the partners carried out the first tests of VR applications at one of Beeline's pilot 5G areas. A permanent location for development and testing of VR/AR applications on the basis of the mobile edge computing architecture on 5G networks is planned for 2020.
Beeline plans to launch its 5G-ready network in Moscow in 2020.
