Belgian mobile revenues down slightly to EUR 3.7 bln in 2010

Belgian mobile operators generated service revenues of EUR 3.71 billion in 2010, down 1.4 percent from 2009, according to Telecompaper's latest quarterly report on the sector. The increase in non-voice revenues could not offset the pressure on voice revenues from cuts to termination and roaming rates. Proximus recorded a 4.8 percent drop in revenues, while Base grew by 3.5 percent, and Mobistar posted a 0.6 percent increase. The number of mobile lines rose by 3.0 percent or 0.4 million to a total 12.8 million at year-end, taking market penetration from 114.5 percent to 116.8 percent. Proximus remains market leader with 40 percent of mobile lines, followed by Mobistar with 31 percent. Base improved its position to over 29 percent. Telecompaper expects flat to slightly higher revenues on the Belgian market in 2011.
