Bharti Airtel quarterly net profit up 30.5%

India-based Bharti Airtel reported revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter to March 2015 up 3.6 percent year-on-year to INR 230.1 billion. The company grew revenues 11.8 percent in its home market and 3.4 percent in Africa. The revenue growth in India was led by an increase of 11 percent in Mobile, 10.2 percent in Telemedia, and 17.2 percent in the Digital TV business.

EBITDA improved 10 percent year-on-year to INR 80.5 billion,  with EBITDA margin expanding by 2 percentage points to 35 percent, driven by India’s margin expansion by 3.8 percent year-on-year. Net profit jumped 30.5 percent to 12.5 billion.

The operator finished the quarter with 324.3 million customers in 20 countries, up 9.6 percent year-on-year. Quarterly growth in Africa reached 9.8 percent bringing the operator’s mobile customer base to 76.2 million at 31 March 2015. In India, the number of mobile customers grew by 10 percent in the period to 226 million. Airtel’s mobile customer base in South Asia slightly declined by 0.2 percent year-on-year to 8.6 million users at end-March. Airtel’s TV subscribers were up 11.8 percent to 10.07 million, and the number of fixed customers rose by 1.6 to 3.41 million.
