BlackBerry aims for number 3 platform position by next year
BlackBerry 10 will grow next year to be the third mobile platform, after Android and iOS, according to Christophe Lefort, VP & General Manager Western Europe at BlackBerry, in an interview with Telecompaper.

While acknowledging that BlackBerry 10 still needs to prove itself, Lefort said the system will grow in part thanks to use on systems other than mobile devices, for example through in-car systems. BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins underlined that BlackBerry 10 will be the platform for mobile computing where interaction between people and systems is central. The device itself plays a less important role.

According to Lefort, BlackBerry will continue for the moment focusing on the high-end smartphones segment, with the in January unveiled Z10 and Q10 the main examples. The more recent Q5 serves the mid-range segment.

Lefort said the company is still considering licensing BlackBerry 10 to other companies, but no decision on the matter has been taken yet.
