Bluesky launches 4G+ service in Cook Islands

Bluesky Cook Islands has soft launched 4G+ services in Rarotonga and Aitutaki. The network upgrade was rolled out in partnership with Huawei Technologies. Bluesky plans to introduce 4G+ products and services over the coming months.

4G-enabled handsets currently available at Bluesky outlets include Apple iPhone 6s, Apple iPhone 7, Apple iPhone 7 Plus, Apple iPhone SE, Aspera R7, Aspera R8, HTC 628, Huawei GR3, Huawei P9, Samsung S7, Samsung S7 Edge and Sony Xperia Z5.

Bluesky says the upgrade project included enhanced network capacity, 3 new cell sites to increase 2G, 3G and 4G coverage, particularly around the Tikioki, Central Avarua and Puaikura areas. Network coverage was also expanded across the Takuvaine Valley.

Bluesky, KotahiNet deploy IoT data network in Cook Islands

Bluesky Cook Islands, in partnership with New Zealand's KotahiNet, has deployed a public wireless network for the Internet of Things in Rarotonga. The service will initially be available in the north of Rarotonga, to be later expanded to cover the entire island. According to Bluesky, to help people understand the benefits and opportunities this new technology provides, there will be no charge for testing or connecting a few sensors to the internet.

Bluesky supports Amper's South Pacific business sale

Bluesky has announced it fully supports the decision of its parent company Amper to divest its South Pacific holdings. Amper signed a non-binding letter of intent to divest its South Pacific holdings to Fijian group Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (ATH). According to Bluesky, the strong performance of Bluesky Pacific Group operations in American Samoa, Samoa, New Zealand and Cook Islands has attracted the attention of key telecom operators in the region such as ATH.

Bluesky, ABS expand internet services across Samoa, Pacific

ABS and Pacific operator Bluesky Pacific have signed a multi-transponder contract on ABS-6. The multi-year capacity deal will offer expanded satellite connectivity services across the Samoan islands and the Pacific. Under the terms of the deal, Bluesky will use the On C-band (OCB) platform for internet, telephony and video content delivery services to Samoa and American Samoa.

Bluesky expands ops to cover 3 Pacific Island territories

The Bluesky Group has welcomed Telecom Cook Islands as its newest operation. On 23 February, Bluesky's Cook Islands subsidiary, Teleraro, completed the purchase of a 60 percent stake in Telecom Cook Islands from Spark New Zealand. Teleraro acquired the Telecom Cook Islands stake for around NZD 23 million, with financing provided by a regional bank. The remaining 40 percent stake in Telecom Cook Islands is held by the Cook Islands government. Teleraro's ownership structure also includes Cook Islands investor
