Boxee adds live TV
Online video software developer Boxee announced plans for a new set-top box that will also include live TV. Available in January, it will come with a Live TV dongle that allows the user to connect an antenna to the box to watch free-to-air channels such as ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. The Live TV stick can already be ordered for USD 49. The Boxee box already offers a range of online content such as Netflix, YouTube and Hulu, and with the addition of traditional broadcast networks, users will have even more of a reason to 'cut the cord' and cancel their cable subscriptions, Boxee said.

Boxee considers DVR subscription service

Boxee is considering the launch of a DVR subscription service for users of its new Live TV tuner, according to a user survey the company sent to customers. The recently released Live TV tuner allows owners of the Boxee Box to receive over-the-air TV programming through the device. The tuner currently doesn't support any DVR functionality, but there have been numerous requests to add this to the Boxee Box, and the startup has said that it is looking into such a possibility, GigaOm reports. France 24 is now available on demand on Boxee, a new multimedia 'over-the-top' TV offer available on software, STBs and tablet and smartphone apps. France's international news and current affairs channel will mainly reach viewers via a dedicated France 24 app on Boxee in the US and Canada. Boxee has over 1 million users in North America. It will soon add the complete France 24 VoD catalogue, including all programming in French and Arabic in the first half of 2012.
