Brazil mobile market growth slows in July
Brazil ended July with 256.41 million active mobile phones, an increase of 16.36 percent on the same period last year, according to data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). A total of 279,720 new lines were added in July, an increase of 0.11 percent on the previous month.

Of the total connections in the country, 208.95 million were pre-paid (81.49%) and 47.46 million post-paid (18.51%). Vivo continues as market leader with 29.71 percent, followed by TIM (26.78%), Claro (24.6%) and Oi (18.59%).

In the previous month, the market share was distributed in the following way: Vivo (29.56%), TIM (26.89%), Claro (24.58%) and Oi (18.65%).

According to Anatel, the number of 3G network connections via modems and smartphones has already reached 53.95 million. The data also showed that Vivo and Claro added new users in July, while TIM and Oi reported a drop in their mobile user bases. The monthly growth was down from over 1 million new additions in recent months, after Anatel issued a ban on sales of new lines in certain states by Tim, Claro and Oi, until the companies pledged to invest in improving services quality.
