Broadband Belgium extends rights for 3.5 GHz band

Belgian regulator BIPT has extended the licence for the 3.5 GHz band of Broadband Belgium for five years. The company acquired in March 2016 the licences held by b.lite and Mac Telecom in order to offer wireless broadband services to the business market. With the extension, the licences are now valid until 25 April 2024. The company plans to use 5G-ready equipment for the network roll-out and target 16 large metro areas. Belgian telecom minister Alexander De Croo welcomed the plans for an early start with 5G. He said additional 5G spectrum for other operators will be made available soon.
