Broadcom takes Docsis 3.0 to 1Gbps
Broadcom announced that its fourth-generation Docsis 3.0 system-on-a-chip (SoC) has achieved 1Gbps downstream speeds by bonding up to 24x8 Docsis channels. This is triple the downstream bandwidth and double the upstream bandwidth from previous generations. When paired with Broadcom's 5G Wi-Fi devices (based on the IEEE 802.11ac standard), operators can achieve gigabit speeds into and around the home.

The new BCM3384 Docsis/EuroDocsis 3.0 cable gateway SoC combines Broadcom's Full-Band Capture digital tuning technology with remote diagnostics, dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi, a custom, dedicated applications processor and integrated DECT 6.0 CAT-iq 2.0. Enabling migration to 16x4, Broadcom's new BCM33843 is pin compatible and leverages the same software and system design as Broadcom's widely deployed BCM3383 Docsis 3.0 cable gateway SoC.

On display at CES, the BCM3384 and BCM33843 are now sampling with customers. They are also available on reference platforms of multiple configurations with 1Gbps total capacity in and out of the home.
