BT adds 106,000 TV, 212,000 fibre broadband customers in Q2

BT Group has reported revenue of GBP 4.45 billion for the second quarter to 30 September, broadly flat year-on-year, with reported EBITDA up to GBP 1.43 billion, from GBP 1.39 billion. Reported operating profit was up to GBP 813 million, from GBP 778 million in the year-earlier quarter, with profit before tax up to GBP 642 million, from GBP 563 million.

BT added a record 106,000 BT TV customers in the second quarter, boosted by good demand for BT Sport Europe, taking the customer base to 1.3 million. The mobile customer base now stands at more than 200,000. The fibre network now passes 24 million premises, with fibre net additions up 21 percent in the 2nd quarter to reach the 5 million milestone for homes and businesses connected.

Order intake was good across the group. On a rolling 12-month basis, order intake was up 16 percent to GBP 7.1 billion in BT Global Services, up 39 percent to GBP 2.1 billion in BT Wholesale, and up 1 percent to GBP 2.1 billion in BT Business.

The fibre network registered 415,000 fibre broadband net connections in Q2 to reach 5 million connected premises, 21 percent of those passed. BT added 212,000 retail fibre broadband customers in the quarter to end with 3.4 million retail fibre broadband customers. The UK broadband market grew by 160,000 in Q2, of which BT's share was 82,000 or 51 percent.  Of the total broadband customers base, 44 percent are now on fibre.
