BT confirms autumn 2019 launch of 5G for BT Plus customers

BT has confirmed plans to launch 5G for BT and BT business customers from autumn 2019. BT Plus customers will be the first BT mobile customers to be given the option to upgrade to 5G. 

5G from BT Mobile will use the EE 5G network, which launched in May in six cities and will be expanded to the busiest parts of 10 additional cities by end-2019. BT will be the first provider in the UK to offer 5G as part of a converged mobile and broadband (BT Plus) package, supported by its 'Keep Connected Promise'. 

BT said it will announce further details on the launch of 5G for BT Plus customers, including availability of 5G devices, in due course.

Air pollution is being monitored in the two cities by sensors integrated within new InLink digital street units. UK business communications provider Daisy has introduced 5G EE mobile plans. The 5G service, which will need a suitable handset such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G or Oppo Reno 5G, will for the moment only be available in the busiest parts of the UK.

The BBC is already testing the UK's first 5G network for live broadcasts. A report from Covent Garden on the 5G launch by EE was sent back to the BBC's Broadcasting House in London over the 5G network to appear live on the BBC Breakfast show.

EE switches on 5G network, marking event with Stormzy concert on Thames

EE has switched on its 5G network, marking the event with a concert by Stormzy on the Thames river in London. The network was turned on in London, as well as in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester. The operator has now launched 5G devices at its stores and introduced its new 5G plans. EE said customers can expect speeds of around 100-150 Mbps with the new network. Speeds on 5G smartphones will be able to break the 1 Gbps mark.

BT launches new BT Plus converged fibre, 4G plans for families

BT has announced the launch of a new range of converged fibre broadband and 4G plans for consumers called BT Plus. This is the first consumer product launched under the company's new converged communications strategy. Bundles are available from GBP 61.99 per month and come with Ultrafast or Superfast Fibre Plus, and mobile SIM plan starting from 1 GB to 80 GB.
