BT launches mobile voice over Wi-Fi service
BT has unveiled a voice over Wi-Fi service aimed at the consumer market. Expanding on its existing hybrid Fusion service, the company will now allow voice calls from its public hot spots. Previously Fusion users could only use Wi-Fi in the home to make voice calls and used Vodafone's GSM network outside the home. The company has partnered with retailer Phones 4u to market the handsets and service, which will initially include the Nokia 6136, Motorola A910 and Samsung P200. Fusion users will also get unlimited internet access from hot spots as part of their subscription plan. BT is currently expanding its hot spot network, planning dense Wi-Fi coverage of 12 major UK cities by the end of March 2008.
