BT signs network contract with Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations
BT announced that it has been awarded a €20 million contract to provide fixed voice, data and internet services to the Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations (MAP - Ministerio de Administraciones Públicas) for the next four years. This contract follows the signing of a 200 million contract with the Bavarian State government, illustrating BT's increasing success in serving national and international public administrations throughout Europe. It is the biggest commercial win by BT in Spain and consolidates BT's position in the Spanish government sector, where it already serves organisations such as INEM (National Employment Institute - Instituto Nacional de Empleo), the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the Spanish State Traffic Office (Direccion General de Tráfico), the National Parliament (Congreso de los Diputados) and the Regional Government of Madrid (Comunidad de Madrid). The Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations coordinates and gives administrative support to the different central, regional and local government levels in Spain with more than 400 sites across the country. BT will provide and support all the fixed voice and data traffic through its IP network. The contract covers the provision of ATM, Frame Relay, ADSL, Voice and VoIP services. BT will also provide 24/7 maintenance and management. The contract may be extended by two additional years. Jean-Yves Charlier, president Europe and chief of operations, BT Ignite, said: "We are obviously delighted by the confidence shown in us by the Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations. Coming in the wake of a series of significant wins on the Continent, this contract provides further evidence of BT's leading international position in the field of services to multi-site corporations. We are regarded by prestigious multinational companies and by top level national and international government bodies as a leading reliable and trustworthy partner, capable of dealing with their most complex communications needs".
