Cameroon fibre backbone reaches 6,000 km

Cameroon's fibre backbone now measures 6,000 km, reports the Cameroon Tribune. Camtel and the telecommunication ministry inaugurated the installation of 3,200 km of fibre at an event in northern city of Maroua on 3 May. The backbone now connects the 10 regional capitals and around a hundred county seats and districts. Work began at the end of 2009 in the southern city of Kye-Ossi. The network will eventually be over 10,000 km long, with connections to neighbouring countries Chad, Central African Republic and Nigeria.
