CenturyLink acquires Tier 3
CenturyLink has announced the acquisition of Tier 3, a provider of public cloud services based in the US. Tier 3's cloud platform is available immediately as "CenturyLink Cloud". In addition, Tier 3's products, roadmap and vision are now the foundation of CenturyLink's cloud strategy and anchor the new Seattle-based CenturyLink Cloud Development Centre. Jared Wray, founder and chief technology officer of Tier 3, will join CenturyLink as chief technology officer for the CenturyLink Cloud organisation and will lead the CenturyLink Cloud Development Centre. 

The new CenturyLink Cloud, based on Tier 3's public, multi-tenant cloud, targets complex enterprise workloads and equipped for businesses of all sizes. A web services API and Cloud Foundry-based Platform-as-a-Service provides a comprehensive cloud application toolkit for enterprise developers. The CenturyLink Cloud is currently available in nine global data centres. CenturyLink acquired Tier 3 for an undisclosed amount.

CenturyLink launches offering to retire Qwest debt

US operator CenturyLink has announced an offering of USD 750 million worth of newly-issued unsecured ten-year senior notes due 2023, priced at par with a coupon rate of 6.75 percent. The offering is expected to close on 27 November. CenturyLink buys capacity on Emerald Express system

Emerald Networks, undersea fibre-optic network submarine cable system provider, has signed an agreement with US telecoms company CenturyLink to buy bandwidth capacity on the 'Emerald Express' system. This will provide CenturyLink with additional connectivity between North America and Europe. The Emerald Express undersea cable system will be operational by Q4 2014 with connections to North America, Europe and Iceland.

CenturyLink launches Prism TV in Highlands Ranch, Colorado

CenturyLink has announced it has launched Prism TV in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The new television service is delivered through CenturyLink's fibre optic network and offers features such as whole home DVR, fast channel change, multi-view, Prism on the Go, 3D video on demand and an app centre. In addition, Prism TV offers HBO Go and Max Go as well as a selection of sports channels, including the Pac-12 network.

CenturyLink posts net loss on hosting impairment charge

US telecommunications company CenturyLink's third-quarter operating revenues declined year-over-year to USD 4.52 billion from USD 4.57 billion. Operating expenses, including special items, were down slightly to USD 3.85 billion from USD 3.86 billion, and operating cash flow, excluding special items, declined to USD 1.81 billion from USD 1.90 billion.
