By receiving aa acceptance for providing telecommunications services, CESKY TELECOM is beginning the process of preparing commercial operations in Slovakia this week. Under the name of CZECH TELECOM (which was entered into the business registry in December 2002), the Czech national operator’s branch in Bratislava will provide services for local and international telecommunications operators as well as Internet service providers. Another significant target group comprises large corporations, especially those that operate in several markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
Since autumn 2002, CESKY TELECOM has been building its own international optical network with access points in all states sharing borders with the Czech Republic. In addition to Bratislava, the company will also be opening branches in Vienna and Frankfurt during the first half of this year A combination of its own state-of-the-art infrastructure based on SDH/WDM technology in the Czech Republic and other countries gives CESKY TELECOM a wealth of opportunities to offer local and transit telecommunications services of the highest global standard, with its own network administration and operation in effect 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
“CESKY TELECOM did not get involved in the investment races in the period of the telecommunications boom that took place at the end of the 1990’s. We entered international markets prudently. In these markets, we can now maintain above-standard business relations in voice interconnection and traffic switching services, as well as in the area of international data services,” said Pavel Jirousek, Executive Vice-president of Wholesale Services, CESKY TELECOM, adding, “It is important that Slovakia is the first country we are entering; we did not choose it only because of the historical relationship of our states. The bilateral business activities of both countries are significant and we are certain that it will continue to grow. We want to be there to provide Czecho-Slovak business ventures with the best telecommunications foundation.”
“Our services come from the foundations of the parent corporation. We run a fully digital telecommunications network interconnected with all significant international operators and its own access points in selected international destinations. Thanks to this we can provide transit services to all Central European countries under very favorable conditions. Long-term co-operation with proven partners gives us the opportunity to offer telecommunications services from within the region to practically anywhere in the world,” said Ing. Robert Cisko, Head of CZECH TELECOM Slovakia.
At this point, CESKY TELECOM is the very first national operator from those of the EU candidate countries to enter international markets.
