Chile to launch MNP system in December
Chile will launch the number portability system in December, minister of telecommunications Pedro Pablo Errazuriz said in an interview with Cooperativa radio. Chile's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications has selected communications software and services provider Telcordia to manage the country's number portability system. Telcordia will officially sign the contract on 5 August. Following this date, the government has 120 days to implement and launch the mobile number portability system. Users who port their number will be charged CLP 377. According to Errazuriz, Chile also plans to expand the portability system to fixed line numbers in the near future.

Chile's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications has selected communications software and services provider Telcordia to manage the country's number portability system. In the tender for number portability database administrator in Chile, Telcordia competed against Indra, Informatica El Corte Ingles and Neustar, Emol reports, citing Chile's minister of telecommunications Pedro Pablo Errazuriz. Telcordia also administers Mexico number portability system, as part of a contract granted in April 2010.

Chile to implement fixed number portability gradually

Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel plans to implement the fixed number portability system gradually, by geographic regions, local newspaper Diario Financiero reports. To this end, the regulator plans to design a gradual implementation schedule, which will also cover the change of the numbering system and the termination of the domestic long distance service. The mobile number portability system will be implemented in a single phase across the entire country.
