
Chile to launch MNP system in December

Chile will launch the number portability system in December, minister of telecommunications Pedro Pablo Errazuriz said in an interview with Cooperativa radio. Chile's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications has selected communications software and services provider Telcordia to manage the country's number portability system. Telcordia will officially sign the contract on 5 August. Following this date, the government has 120 days to implement and launch the mobile number portability system. Users who port their number will be charged CLP 377. According to Errazuriz, Chile also plans to expand the portability system to fixed line numbers in the near future.
