China govt grants 5G trial license to state-run operator CBN
The Chinese government has awarded a 5G trial license to state-owned cable TV operator China Broadcasting Network (CBN). Via this decision, the government aims to accelerate the nationwide deployment of 5G services, local newspaper CX Tech reports. The license enables CBN to carry out trials in the 4.9 GHz frequency range in 16 cities including Beijing, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said in a WeChat post.

The Ministry believes CBN’s new license will boost the nationwide construction of the operator’s 5G networks and make it a viable alternative to the “big three” state-owned mobile operators China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom.

According to a GSMA report, China will reach 460 million 5G connections in 2025, or 28 percent of the world’s predicted total.
