China Mobile, HKT, Hutchison, SmarTone to bid for 5G spectrum in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) has announced that China Mobile Hong Kong, HKT, Hutchison Telephone; and SmarTone Mobile Communications are the qualified bidders for its next 5G spectrum auction. Hong Kong plans to auction spectrum in the 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 2.5/2.6 GHz, and 4.9 GHz frequency bands. These four qualified bidders are eligible for participating in the bidding stage.

Hong Kong operator SmarTone has launched a TV commercial to promote its Home 5G Broadband service. The SmarTone Home 5G Broadband service delivers a plug-and-play home internet service that requires no landlines or installations, the operator said. For HKD 148 per month, customers can add an extra private broadband at home and access SmarTone's 5G network.

Hong Kong raises nearly HKD 1.9 billion in 5G spectrum auction

Hong Kong's Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) announced it has concluded its auction of radio spectrum in the 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 2.5/2.6 GHz and 4.9 GHz frequency bands. The auction included a total of 32 rounds of bidding in three days. A total of 255 MHz of spectrum in 19 frequency blocks was auctioned off to four mobile network operators at total spectrum utilization fees (SUFs) of HKD 1.87 billion.

China Mobile's 9-month revenue grows nearly 13%, adds 10 mln mobile users in Q3

China Mobile saw its operating revenue increase by 12.9 percent year-on-year to CNY 648.6 billion for the first three quarters of 2021. Revenue from telecommunications services grew by 9 percent year-on-year to CNY 572.9 billion and revenue from the sales of products and others grew by 55.4 percent year-on-year to CNY 75.8 billion. China Mobile's profit jumped 6.9 percent year-on-year to CNY 87.2 billion for the first three quarters of 2021.

3 Hong Kong to terminate 2G services on 30 September

3 Hong Kong, the mobile arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong (HTHKH), has announced plans to terminate its 2G services on 30 September this year. The operator says customers have been upgrading to 5G since 3 Hong Kong launched 5G services in April 2020. The number of 2G customers has been decreasing, and currently accounts for only 0.1 percent of the total customer base.
