China Telecom profit up 6%, adds 9 mln mobile subs in H1

China Telecom reported operating revenues of CNY 176.8 billion for the six months ended 30 June, which represents an increase of 7.2 percent year-on-year. Service revenues amounted to CNY 155.2 billion, up by 5.6 percent from the first half of 2015. 

First-half EBITDA reached CNY 50.5 billion, down 0.4 percent year-on-year, while the EBITDA margin stood at 32.6 percent. Profit reached CNY 11.6 billion, up by 6.3 percent year-on-year. Basic earnings per share were CNY 0.14.

The number of wireline broadband subscribers reached 118 million, representing a net addition of 4.94 million from end-2015. Of these, FTTH subscribers amounted to 88.34 million, representing net additions of 17.35 million in the first six months of 2016. China Telecom also had 50.16 million e-Surfing HD (IPTV) subscribers at 30 June, which represents a net addition of 9.78 million from December 2015. The figure represents an increase of 129 percent compared with the subscriber growth number recorded in the same period of 2015.

The number of 4G terminal users grew by 31.64 million, accounting for 18 percent market share in industry’s net additions, China Telecom said. The total number of 4G terminal users reached 90.10 million, accounting for 15.2 percent market share. The net increase of mobile subscribers was 9.04 million, accounting for 32 percent market share in industry’s net additions. The total number of mobile subscribers reached approximately 210 million, representing 15.9 percent market share, claims China Telecom. 

4G users accounted for 44 percent of the operator’s total mobile subscribers at end-June, representing an increase of 14 percentage points from end-2015. Mobile handset internet access revenue rose 42 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 47 percent of mobile service revenues. Mobile service revenues increased by 8.3 percent year-on-year.

China Telecom also said that its revenues from cloud services increased by 41 percent over the same period last year, while revenues from Big Data increased nearly three-fold in the period.
