China Telecom, Unicom swap chairmen
China Telecom and China Unicom have swapped chairmen. Unicom's chairman Chang Xiaobing will take up the same position at Telecom, replacing Wang Xiaochu, who becomes chairman of China Unicom. Xiaochu has also resigned from his position as executive director, chairman and CEO of China Telecom, effective immediately, and Xiaobing has done the same at China Unicom, from 24 August.

China Telecom CEO resigns amid discipline probe - report

China Telecom has appointed Yang Jie as its chairman. He will replace Chang Xiaobing, who resigned from his position amid an ongoing investigation, Shanghai Daily reports. Xiaobing resigned after he was "suspected of serious violation of discipline" in December, according to an  industry watchdog. The authority has not releases its final investigation results yet.

China Telecom has appointed Chang Xiaobing as its chief executive officer, effective 1 September. In addition, the company will seek approval for the proposed appointment of Xiaobing as an executive director of the company from the shareholders of the company. The above appointment will be effective until the AGM of the company for the year 2016 to be held in 2017.

China Unicom appoints Xiaochu as chairman and CEO

China Unicom (Hong Kong) has appointed Wang Xiaochu as its executive director, chairman and CEO, as well as a member of the Nomination Committee of the company, effective 1 September. Xiaochu served as deputy director general and director general of the Hangzhou Telecommunications Bureau in the Zhejiang province. He was also director general of the Tianjin Posts and Telecommunications Administration. Xiaochu also served as chairman and CEO of China Mobile (Hong Kong), and VP of China Mobile Communications.

China Mobile appoints Bing as chairman

China Mobile Communications has appointed Shang Bing as its chairman, replacing Xi Guohua. Guohua has resigned from his positions as executive director and chairman of China Mobile by reason of age, effective immediately.

China plans management changes at telecom operators - report

China is close to reorganizing the leadership of its three main telecom operators, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. The chairman of China Mobile, Xi Guohua, will retire and be replaced by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Vice Minister Shang Bing. There also will be high-level personnel changes at China Unicom and China Telecom, the report said.

China Mobile leads net additions in July

China Mobile led net subscriber gains in the Chinese mobile market in July. The operator added 1.579 million new customers for a total 818.78 million at the end of July. That includes almost 210 million 3G and 4G customers. China Telecom added a net 820,000 new customers in July for a total 192.26 million, of which 132.90 million were on the 3G or 4G networks. China Unicom H1 profits up on lower costs, broadband growth

China Unicom reported revenues for the first half of 2015 down 3.3 percent from a year earlier to CNY 144.69 billion. Services revenue fell 5.3 percent, with mobile revenues down 9.7 percent to CNY 73.46 billion and fixed revenues up 2.2 percent to CNY 46.19 billion. Unicom blamed the drop on the changes to VAT in China and changes to its sales and marketing model. The latter resulted in reduced handset subsidies and operating costs, helping EBITDA for the period increase 5.8 percent to CNY 50.46 billion. N

China Telecom H1 results flat on tax reform, price cuts

China Telecom reported revenues for the first half of 2015 down 0.6 percent year-on-year to CNY 164.95 billion. Adjusted EBITDA rose 0.4 percent to CNY 50.74 billion, while net profit fell 4.0 percent to CNY 10.98 billion. Mobile service revenues were up 0.6 percent year-on-year to CNY 62.35 billion, following the launch of the 4G network, while fixed revenues fell 0.4 percent to CNY 84.68 billion.
