Cisco grows quarterly sales 6%, net profit up 18%
Cisco Systems reported net sales for the three months to October up 6 percent from a year earlier to USD 11.9 billion. Sales growth was strongest in wireless (38%), service provider video (30%) and services (12%), offsetting a 2 percent drop in switch and router revenues. Cisco said the US market remained resilient, helping offset challenging market conditions elsewhere. Across regions, orders in the Americas rose 2 percent and the APAC region grew 7 percent, while Europe pulled the EMEA region 7 percent lower. Orders were strongest among service providers, up 3 percent, and the commercial sector, up 1 percent, while the public sector contracted 6 percent, and orders from the enterprise segment fell 1 percent. Overall, Cisco's book-to-bill ratio was slightly under 1. Net profit for the fiscal first quarter rose 18 percent, to USD 2.1 billion or USD 0.39 per share. Cash flow from operations increased to USD 2.5 billion from USD 2.3 billion in the year-earlier period, and Cisco finished October with total cash of USD 45.0 billion.
