Clearwire files again for IPO

Wireless broadband provider Clearwire has filed again for an initial public offering of shares. A filing earlier this year with the US Securities and Exchange Commission was later withdrawn, but the company now expects to go ahead with raising USD 400 million. According to the filing, Clearwire had 188,000 broadband customers at the end of November, equal to a penetration of around 0.6 percent of its network coverage. Revenues in the nine months to September totalled USD 76.4 million, while the net loss was USD 191.9 million. Founder Craig McCaw controls 52 percent of the company, and Intel has a 32 percent stake and is working with Clearwire on WiMAX developments. The proceeds of the IPO will be used for network expansion and spectrum acquisitions.
