CNT accuses Claro of anti-competitive behaviour

Ecuador's state-owned operator CNT has submitted a complaint with the Superintendency for Market Power Control against Claro for anti-competitive behavior, Ecuavisa reports. The complaint is related to Claro’s exclusive use of the land where its antennae are placed. Claro has prevented CNT from placing its own antennae in the same area, the state-owned operator said.

Representatives of Claro and CNT will attend a hearing to sustain their arguments on these allegations, after which a Superintendency committee will issue a decision in the case. If the commission determines that Claro carried out acts of unfair competition the operator will be penalized.

Claro said it has presented strong evidence that dismisses CNT’s allegations, and demonstrates that CNT was perfectly able to install its own infrastructure on the land near Claro’s antennas with no additional transaction and/or economic costs. In its defence, Claro concludes that “at no time” has it “prevented CNT from deploying and developing its network”.
