CNT wins 70 MHz spectrum for LTE services
Ecuador's National Telecommunications Council (Conatel) has awarded state-owned operator CNT EP authorization and the necessary spectrum to launch LTE services on the local market. CNT won 30 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz frequency band, and 40 MHz of spectrum in the 1700 – 2100 MHz (AWS) frequency bands. CNT thus becomes the only Ecuadorian operator licensed to provide LTE services on the local market.

According to the CNT executive, the operator already has over 100 LTE base stations deployed in Quito and Guayaquil, and plans to end the year with over 400 radio bases installed across the country. CNT commercially launched its 4G LTE mobile network in December 2013.

Ecuador's state-owned operator CNT has commercially launched its 4G LTE mobile network, local newspaper El Universo reports. CNT offers a 'MyFi' mobile Wi-Fi hotspot router, enabling users to wirelessly connect up to five devices (including smartphones, tablets and laptops) to its 4G network. Ecuador's National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) will commercially launch its 4G LTE mobile network in the last week of November. CNT will offer a 'MyFi' mobile Wi-Fi hotspot router, enabling users to wirelessly connect up to five devices (including smartphones, tablets and laptops) to its 4G network. Claro, Tigo win 4G spectrum tender in Honduras

America Movil's unit Claro, and Tigo, part of the Millicom group, have won the 4G spectrum tender launched by Honduras' National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) in August. Claro and Tigo each won a block of 20MHz in the 1700-2100 MHz (AWS) frequency bands, local newspaper El Heraldo reports. The operators paid an overall HNL 497.5 million (approximately USD 24 million) for the spectrum. A third block of 40 MHz was reserved for state-owned operator Hondutel.

CNT picks Huawei for 4G network deployment in Ecuador

Ecuadorian state-owned operator CNT has selected Huawei for the deployment of its 4G network, local newspaper La Hora reports. Back in January, CNT general manager Cesar Regalado said the operator planned to invest around USD 30 million in the initial roll out of LTE services. CNT plans to launch 4G services in the second quarter of this year.

CNT extends phone, internet services to Loja

Ecuadorian state-owned operator CNT has deployed over 4,824 phone lines and 2,112 broadband ports in the Loja city area, local newspaper Cronica reports. The infrastructure has been installed in the communities of Amable Maria, Virgenpamba, Shucos, Motupe, Punzara, Zalapa, Mater Dei, Epoca, among others.

Chile has published in the official government gazette the technical guidelines for the use of the 700 MHz frequency band. This is the first step in the government's planned 700MHz spectrum auction for provision of LTE-based services. Chilean telecoms regulator Subtel plans to launch the tender of 700 MHz spectrum around mid-2013.
