
The new business unit will design, build, implement and manage customized communications networks for large companies and organisations. The 'Managed Enterprise Solutions' portfolio will include services such as broadband, Ethernet, voice, routers, security, business continuity and Wi-Fi. Comcast said it's already signed up a number of large customers from multiple industries, including financial services firms, banks, hospitality chains and retailers. Glenn Katz, formerly the CEO of SpaceNet, will lead the new group within Comcast Business.
Comcast said it is seeking to bring together the cable industry to provide a meaningful alternative to AT&T and Verizon. In the past the company was often ignored by large companies due to its limited network, Bill Stemper, president of Comcast Business, told the Wall Street Journal.
To help manage the national accounts, Comcast said it acquired a company called Contingent Network Services two weeks ago. Contingent helps enterprise customers outsource their day-to-day network operations. It already provides deployment and managed services to a number of well-known national brands and will continue to operate under the Contingent brand name as part of Comcast Business.
