Comcast, Liberty Global enter international Wi-Fi agreement

Comcast Cable and Liberty Global have entered an international Wi-Fi agreement to enable users to access each other's Wi-Fi networks. This first-of-its-kind international partnership will allow Xfinity Internet and Liberty Global internet customers to access millions of new Wi-Fi access points across a range of countries by 2015. 

Comcast has more than three million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in the US, while Liberty Global has more than 2.5 million Wi-Fi home spots under the Wi-Free and WifiSpots names in various countries in Europe, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland and Switzerland. Both companies plan to aggressively grow their Wi-Fi footprints going forward. Comcast and Liberty Global plan to trial the shared Wi-Fi service later in the year and offer it on a wide-scale in 2015.

Comcast turns down Streampix OTT service

In a recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Comcast said it is discontinuing its Streampix over-the-top video offering, reported Light Reading. Citing limited interest from subscribers, Comcast said "both the site and the app are being decommissioned, and the standalone offer was discontinued. Going forward, the Streampix service will simply be part of the Xfinity TV app and website, like other VoD offerings."

Vodafone could bid for Liberty Global after next year - CEO

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao told Bloomberg that he would consider acquiring cable giant Liberty Global if the price was right. Speaking at a Goldman Sachs presentation, Colao said Vodafone could consider a transformational M&A deal in the future. In the US, interconnection agreements with AT&T, Time Warner Cable and Verizon resulted in significant increases in internet speeds for all three providers in August, according to Netflix's August ISP Speed Index. Nascar, Comcast enter brand title sponsorship agreement

Nascar and Comcast have entered an agreement to make Comcast's Xfinity brand the title sponsor of what is currently known as the Nascar National Series through 2024.
