Croatia attracts multiple bidders for regional 5G spectrum

Croatian regulator Hakom made public the companies interested in taking part in the 5G frequency auction that will award spectrum in the 700 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz bands. A1 Hrvatska, Hrvatski Telekom and Telemach Hrvatska expressed interest in all three bands, while EOLO was also interested in the 26 GHz band.

On a regional level, six operators fulfilled conditions to take part in the bidding for the 3600 MHz band: BeeIN, Digicom, Eco Net, EOLO, Markoja and Terrakom. The bidding process starts on 12 July.

Croatia plans new 5G auction for this year or next

The director of Croatia's regulatory agency Hakom, Miran Gosta, said that a new frequency auction for 5G mobile telephony will be organized by the end of the year or the beginning of 2023 at the latest, reports Poslovni Dnevnik. The auction will centre around the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz frequency bands at the national level. The bands are already in use, with concessions set to expire in 2024.

Croatia launches public consultation on major mobile spectrum allocation

The Croatian Network Regulatory Agency (Hakom) launched a public consultation on the future use and allocation of the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,500 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,600 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz frequency bands. The consultation, which lasts until 6 December, will gather feedback on market expectations for spectrum needs in future, to help the regulator to choose the optimal method of allocation of the spectrum rights.

Croatia launched the tender for awarding 5G mobile spectrum. The public auction will be conducted entirely through an electronic bidding system, and bidding for individual frequency bands will be conducted in four separate procedures (700 MHz, 3600 MHz, 26 GHz and 3600 MHz regionally).

The auction will be conducted through electronic bidding, and requests to participate can be submitted until 11 June. There will be four separate procedures for the different frequency bands 700 MHz, 3600 MHz, 26 GHz and 3600 MHz regionally.

Hrvatski Telekom brings 5G network to 15 new towns and cities

Croatian operator Hrvatski Telekom is expanding its 5G network to 15 new cities and towns. The new additions are Pula, Crikvenica, Selce, Krk, Sisak, Petrinja, Pag, Vodice, Kastela, Imotski, Metkovic, Ploce, Baška, Malinska, and Podstrana.

A1 first operator in Croatia to test 5G on 700 MHz band

A1 Hrvatska announced it is the first operator in Croatia to start testing a 5G network in the 700 MHz frequency band. The tests are conducted in the wider area of Bistra and in Zagreb on the A1 campus. In combination with the existing LTE spectrum (4x4 MIMO, LTE 1800 and 2600), a download speed of over 650 Mbps and an upload speed of over 120 Mbps were achieved.

Croatian operators surprised with proposed 5G auction schedule

Croatia's mobile operators are concerned about the regulator Hakom's proposal to auction a large amount of spectrum in the next few years, reports Poslovni Dnevnik. Hakom proposed that the public auction for the 700 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz frequencies be postponed to the first half of 2021, while the existing licences held by Hrvatski Telekom, A1 Hrvatska and Tele2 Hrvatska for the 800, 900, 1,800, 2,100 and 2,600 MHz bands be tendered in 2022, ahead of their expiry in 2024.

Croatia delays 5G spectrum auction to 2021

Croatian telecom regulator Hakom has postponed the planned allocation of spectrum for 5G in the 700 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz bands, from the end of 2020 to the first half of 2021. Previously, the transition to DVB-T2/HEVC for DTT broadcasting, which will liberate the 700 MHz spectrum, was postponed from the first half of 2020 to the second half of the year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hrvatski Telekom selects Ericsson as sole 5G RAN supplier

Ericsson's Croatian associated company Ericsson Nikola Tesla was selected by Croatian communications service provider Hrvatski Telekom as its sole supplier of 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and services until 2024. The deal will see Ericsson networks technology deployed in Hrvatski Telekom's network, including Ericsson Radio System products and Ericsson Spectrum Sharing.
