Dell, HGC, SmarTone, VMware to launch 5G ecosystem for private campus networks
Dell Technologies, HGC Global Communications (HGC), SmarTone and VMware have introduced a locally-developed 5G initiative in Hong Kong. The partnership will support the deployment and application of enterprise-grade 5G technologies among businesses of all types and sizes across a variety of industries.

The partners plan to foster cross-industry collaboration in Hong Kong. They are also planning to launch a 5G technology lab in the second half of this year. The companies’ goals are to co-create an ecosystem in Hong Kong with a 5G private campus network that will provide local enterprises and organizations with 5G enterprise-grade services. The 5G private campus network in Hong Kong, running on a optical-fiber network, will offer a one-stop solution for enterprises with mobile infrastructure, designed to enable them to monitor and control real-time IoT applications.

By integrating 5G with mobile edge computing in a private campus network, enterprises will also be able to deploy IoT applications and enable data sharing through 5G connectivity.

The initiative will support industries and businesses in the deployment and development of 5G technologies with reference use cases across retail, construction, education and healthcare. Combining the expertise of the four companies with fiber-based network infrastructure, the partnership will assist organizations in Hong Kong to simplify IT operations. The combined set of services from the respective companies are designed to enable local application developers, technology startups and enterprises with an application development environment that supports edge computing platforms, AI APIs, IoT hardware and software.
