Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, the international wholesale unit of Deutsche Telekom, has started to operate a 800G network using Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e). This means the company can transport 2x400GE across a single 800G wavelength and satisfy increasing traffic demand across its pan-European network.
The technology also allows Deutsche Telekom to transport eight 100G streams of data traffic in less than 100GHz of spectrum and is optimized for high-capacity 100GE and 400GE customer interface connectivity.
Deutsche Telekom intends to use Ciena’s WL5e with its 6500 and Waveserver 5 platforms, which is managed by Ciena’s Manage, Control and Plan domain controller.
