Digital Realty sells US data centres to Mapletree Investments for USD 1.4 bln

Digital Realty announced an agreement to sell 13 data centres to Singapore-based property developer Mapletree Investments and its affiliate Mapletree Industrial Trust for a total of USD 1.4 billion. Mapletree will buy ten existing data centres and an 80 percent stake in a joint venture to operate three additional sites in the US.

The 10 properties are fully leased and are expected to generate operating income of USD 37 million in 2020, Digital Realty said.

Digital Realty will retain a 20 percent interest in the joint venture for the three sites in Ashburn, Virginia, which are used by numerous government customers. These centres also are fully leased and are expected to generate operating income of USD 61 million in 2020. Digital Realty will continue to operate and manage these facilities, with no impact on customers.

The transactions are expected to close in late 2019 or early 2020. Digital Realty plans to use the proceeds for paying off debt and future investments.

Mapletree already acquired 14 data centres in the US at the end of 2017 and owns property housing other data centres in Singapore and other markets.
