Disney to launch VoD service in the UK in November
Disney has announced plans to launch a digital subscription service in the UK in November that will bundle its animated and live action films, books, TV series and music. To be called DisneyLife, the service service will stream its content directly to consumers online. CEO Bob Iger told the Financial Times, “This is the future, in many respects. We’re seeing more and more opportunities to reach consumers directly and not through middlemen, and we’re seeing consumers wanting product in different ways.”

Disney will extend the service across Europe in 2016, with planned launches in France, Spain, Italy and Germany. Iger did not rule out eventually bringing it to the US, saying, “The technology platform that this sits on is scalable to the US and is scalable to our other brands.” In the UK, DisneyLife will cost GBP 9.99 a month to watch streaming content or download it to view offline.
