DNA says still top for data usage, at nearly 20 GB per SIM

Finnish operator DNA said its customers are still using the most mobile data in Finland and the world, according to research by Tefficient. Average data volume over mobile devices for the first half of 2018 was approximately 19.8 GB per month for its customers, up from 15.9 GB in 2017. 

Video is the strongest driver of the traffic growth, and DNA said the majority of traffic on its 4G network is video, led by YouTube and Netflix. This is also driving more sales of unlimited data plans. 

Overall, DNA's mobile data traffic grew by 33 percent year-on-year and the growth is expected to continue, supported by the start of 5G services. Already last month mobile data averaged 21 GB per subscription, the operator said.

Tele2 Sweden said mobile internet use on its network in 2018 reached its peak in the hot month of July, at an average of 0.2 GB per retail customer per day. There was a surge on 07 July when the Swedish national men's football team played England in the World Cup tournament.

Telia Finland said it gained first place in the BearingPoint Digital Performance 2019 ranking and has been named the best Finnish digital company, pushing the Digital Performance 2018 winner DNA into second place. BearingPoint said Telia's expertise was particularly strong in digital customer relationship management. DNA Q3 net sales up 4%, helped by equipment sales as EBITDA rises over 5%

Finnish operator DNA said net sales increased by 4.3 percent in the third quarter to EUR 228.2 million from EUR 218.8 million a year earlier, with a strong rise in mobile device sales in particular. EBITDA rose by 5.4 percent to EUR 76.5 million from EUR 72.6 million, or 33.5 percent (33.2%) of net sales. The operating profit climbed by 3.4 percent to EUR 38.6 million from EUR 37.3 million, or 16.9 percent (17.0%) of net sales.

DNA upgrades FY outlook for growth in sales, operating profit

Finnish operator DNA has raised its guidance for its 2018 net sales and profitability, as business has developed favourably even though competition remains intense. It now expects net sales and comparable operating profit to improve somewhat in 2018 compared with 2017, whereas previously, it expected them to remain the same. It still says it expects its financial position and liquidity to remain at a healthy level.

New iPhones debut in Finnish September best-seller lists, coming 3rd among Telia retail customers

Apple's new iPhones appeared among Finnish operators' lists of best-sellers in September. Telia Finland ranked the iPhone Xs and Xs Max jointly in third position among its retail customers. The iPhone XS was the twelfth-best seller among Elisa's consumer customers, and the iPhone XS Max came tenth among Elisa's business customers.

Finnish H1 mobile data use rises to 28 GB per month

Finnish communications regulator Ficora said that Finns used an average of 28 gigabytes of mobile data per month in the period January-June 2018. In the first half, the growth of data volumes on the mobile network slowed to 15 percent from the previous half-year. Compared with year-end 2017, voice plus data subscribers used around 20 percent more data (11 GB per month) and data-only subscribers 10 percent more (38 GB/month) data.

Finnish operator DNA said that 44 percent of respondents in a survey reported that they watched television for least one hour a day, and 22 percent spent over two hours every working day watching TV. Daily use of Facebook has slidden to 53 percent, said the Digital Lifestyle Survey commissioned from Nepa Insight.

DNA says Q1 mobile data use per customer rises to 20.85 GB, starts upgrades for 5G

Finnish operator DNA said that it has begun increasing its backbone network capacity, which will raise the capacity of its regional grids to 5G level, too. Critical equipment has already been upgraded and DNA's backbone grid speeds have been raised by multiples of 400 Gbps to a maximum of 1.2 Tbps. DNA also said that a total of 20.85 GB of data was transmitted per user through the mobile network in the first quarter of 2018, compared with 14.97GB per user in 2017.

DNA customers have world's highest mobile data use in Q3

DNA customers have the highest mobile data usage per subscription in the world, the Finnish operator said, citing a report from consultancy Tefficient. In the first half of 2017, the subscription-specific data volumes at DNA averaged at 14.7 GB per subscription per month, and reached 16.5 GB in the third quarter. Second place is held by Drei Austria, with usage of 14.3 GB per subscription and month in the first half of 2017.
