Docomo, chipmakers abandon plan for mobile venture

A group of leading chipmakers and Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo have abandoned their plan to launch a joint venture to develop semiconductors for mobile devices. Docomo, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic and Samsung Electronics announced in December 2011 an initial agreement to pursue the venture. Docomo said the deal was terminated as they could not reach an agreement on the terms of the envisioned company by the target deadline of end-March.
