DT opts for T-Mobile takeover of Sprint - report
Deutsche Telekom is changing its strategy in the US and opting for a merger of T-Mobile US and Sprint, reports German paper Handelsblatt. Citing informed sources near the DT board, the paper said the deal would take the form of T-Mobile acquiring Sprint in a stock swap, and DT would maintain management control. 

The company reportedly sees the regulatory environment more friendly to the deal since Donald Trump became president in the US. Deutsche Telekom declined to comment. 

A merger of the third and fourth mobile operators would create a company with over USD 70 billion in annual sales. The deal is thought to make the companies stronger to compete against market leaders Verizon and AT&T.

Sprint, T-Mobile resume merger talks - report

Sprint has resumed preliminary talks about a potential merger with T-Mobile US, people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg. Deutsche Telekom lifts FY forecast after strong Q2

Net revenue increased 6 percent in the second quarter to EUR 18.89 billion. Sales rose 12.7 percent in the US to EUR 9.24 billion on continued strong customer growth, and revenues were up 0.6 percent in Germany to EUR 5.37 billion. Sprint posted its first net profit in three years in its fiscal first quarter to June, and EBITDA rose to its highest level in nearly 10 years. Revenues were also up slightly year-on-year, but customer growth continues to lag its rivals in the US mobile market.

T-Mobile US raises outlook again after solid Q2

T-Mobile US raised its outlook for annual EBITDA and subscriber growth after reporting another quarter of strong results. The mobile operator now expects adjusted EBITDA of USD 10.5-10.9 billion in 2017, up from a previous estimate of USD 10.4-10.8 billion, and to add 3.0-3.6 million postpaid subscribers, more than the earlier outlook of 2.8-3.5 million.

Sprint is on a drive to raise money, with Masayoshi Son, the CEO of parent Softbank, meeting with Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway and John Malone's Liberty Media in Sun Valley, Idaho, at an annual gathering of CEOs, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the situation. Talks are at an early stage but sources are saying Berkshire could invest USD 10 billion in Sprint.

Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son has started exclusive talks with Charter Communications and Comcast, with the cable companies discussing how they can boost plans to offer mobile services, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The two-month, exclusive agreement for discussions will run until the end of July, putting merger talks with T-Mobile US on hold, the sources said.

T-Mobile US have restarted merger talks with Sprint, according to Bloomberg. Both companies declined to comment on the report. In April, Bloomberg had said Sprint was considering alternatives to a possible merger with T-Mobile, such as monetising its spectrum assets or a deal with a cable operator. The site noted that merger negotiations would likely be considered again when a government ban on deal negotiations, imposed due to the recently completed spectrum auction, expired on 27 April.
