Dtac's Q2 net profit jumps 426% year-on-year

Thai mobile operator Dtac's net profit reached THB 743 million in the second quarter, which represents a growth of 224 percent quarter-on-quarter and 426 percent year-on-year, mainly due to higher EBITDA. EBITDA rose 21 percent year-on-year at THB 7.9 billion and EBITDA margin climbed to 41 percent from 33.4 in the second quarter of 2016.

Dtac’s total revenues plunged 18 percent year-on-year to THB 19.44 billion in the second quarter of 2017. However, service revenues increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to THB 16.40 billion. Voice revenues amounted to THB 3.8 billion, which represents a decline of 35 percent year-on-year, due to continuing voice-to-data substitution, including VoIP usage, the company said. Data revenues amounted to THB 11 billion, which represents an increase of 27 percent year-on-year.

Dtac ended the second quarter of 2017 with a total active customer base of 23.6 million, which represents a decline of 2.9 percent in the quarter and 5.4 percent year-on-year. Dtac lost 873,000 prepay customers, and added 168,000 postpaid subscribers in the quarter. Blended ARPU increased to THB 242 in the second quarter of 2017 from THB 227 in the year-earlier period. Blended MOU reached 153 minutes, down 2.1 percent quarter-on-quarter, and 15 percent year-on-year.

Thai mobile operator Dtac's total revenues fell 5.5 percent year-on-year to THB 20.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2017. Service revenues slightly declined by 0.6 percent year-on-year to THB 17 billion. Thai mobile operator Dtac's net profit reached THB 601 million in the third quarter of 2017, which represents a decline of 19 percent quarter-on-quarter and 8.8 percent year-on-year. The decline was mainly due to the depreciation and amortization expenses, which was partly offset by a one-time income of THB 134 million related to PaySbuy transaction, Dtac said. Telenor raises EBITDA margin target after strong Q2 growth

Telenor reported a small net loss for the second quarter, of NOK 167 million versus a profit of NOK 1.111 billion a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was still up 11.8 percent to NOK 12.719 billion, and the company raised its target for the full-year EBITDA margin. The margin in Q2 was up 4 percent points year-on-year to a record 40 percent, and Telenor expects a result of 38-39 percent over the full year, compared to a previous estimate of 37 percent.

Dtac appoints Dilip Pal as CFO

Thai mobile operator Dtac's board of directors has approved the appointment of Dilip Pal as the new CFO of the company, effective 1 September. Pal will replace Sverre Pedersen, who will resign from his CFO position, effective 31 August. Pal previously served as CFO of Bangladeshi mobile operator Grameenphone.

TOT picks Dtac as partner to develop 2,300 MHz spectrum

Thai state-run operator TOT has selected Telenor's local subsidiary dtac as its preferred partner for 4G services on TOT's 2300 MHz spectrum. TOT holds 60 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz frequency band until 2025. Under the terms of the partnership proposal, dtac will build a network based on this spectrum and have the right to use up to 60 percent of the capacity in this network, for a fixed annual fee of THB 4.5 billion (approximately NOK 1.1 billion).

Thai mobile operator Dtac ended the first quarter of 2017 with a total customer base of 25.4 million, which represents a decline of 0.7 percent in the quarter and of 4.6 percent year-on-year. Dtac lost 365,000 prepay customers, and added 195,000 postpaid subscribers in the quarter. Blended ARPU fell to THB in the first quarter of 2017 was almost flat year-on-year at THB 233. Blended MOU reached 157 minutes, down 4.9 percent quarter-on-quarter, and 19 percent year-on-year.

Thai mobile operator Dtac ended the fourth quarter of 2016 with a total customer base of 24.4 million, which represents a decline of 1.4 percent in the quarter and of 3.1 percent year-on-year. Dtac lost 548,000 prepay customers, and added 207,000 postpaid subscribers in the quarter. Blended ARPU in the fourth quarter of 2016 was flat year-on-year at THB 220. Blended MOU reached 124 minutes, down 4.7 percent quarter-on-quarter, and 27 percent year-on-year.

Thai mobile operator Dtac ended the third quarter with a total customer base of 24.82 million, slightly down by 0.1 percent from 24.85 million in September 2015. Blended ARPU increased by 6.9 percent year-on-year to THB 218 at end-September 2016. MoU decreased to 130 from 165, negatively impacted by voice-to-data substitution, the company said.
