Dtac's Q2 net profit jumps 426% year-on-year

Thai mobile operator Dtac's net profit reached THB 743 million in the second quarter, which represents a growth of 224 percent quarter-on-quarter and 426 percent year-on-year, mainly due to higher EBITDA. EBITDA rose 21 percent year-on-year at THB 7.9 billion and EBITDA margin climbed to 41 percent from 33.4 in the second quarter of 2016.

Dtac’s total revenues plunged 18 percent year-on-year to THB 19.44 billion in the second quarter of 2017. However, service revenues increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to THB 16.40 billion. Voice revenues amounted to THB 3.8 billion, which represents a decline of 35 percent year-on-year, due to continuing voice-to-data substitution, including VoIP usage, the company said. Data revenues amounted to THB 11 billion, which represents an increase of 27 percent year-on-year.

Dtac ended the second quarter of 2017 with a total active customer base of 23.6 million, which represents a decline of 2.9 percent in the quarter and 5.4 percent year-on-year. Dtac lost 873,000 prepay customers, and added 168,000 postpaid subscribers in the quarter. Blended ARPU increased to THB 242 in the second quarter of 2017 from THB 227 in the year-earlier period. Blended MOU reached 153 minutes, down 2.1 percent quarter-on-quarter, and 15 percent year-on-year.
