Dutch apps market: Snapchat doubles installed base
Dutch smartphone users are using Skype more, according to the latest research from Telecompaper on mobile apps in the Netherlands. The number of smartphone users with Snapchat on their phone also doubled in the past year, to almost 1.5 million. WhatsApp remains the most popular smartphone app among Dutch users, according to the Dutch Apps Market report.

The number of smartphones with Skype installed increased 14 percent over the past year, to reach 2.9 million in December 2014. Those who had Skype installed used the app on average five days a month for calling, up from four days a month a year ago.  The average number of minutes called each week with the app also increased, from 19 minutes at the end of 2013 to 31 minutes in December 2014.

The report also shows that Snapchat more than doubled its installed base in the Netherlands. The number of smartphone users with the app installed rose to 1.49 million in December 2014 from 670,000 a year earlier. Facebook Messenger was even more successful, growing its base from 1.7 million to 4.4 million users in a year. The growth was helped by the fact that a private message sent over Facebook can only be opened via Facebook Messenger when using a smartphone.
