Dutch FTTH market to grow to 3 mln lines in 2016

The Dutch FTTH market counted around 950,000 homes passed at the end of 2011. Including FTTB, the total was over 1 million. Reggefiber was by far the biggest operator, with a 96.2 percent share of the market, according to Telecompaper's latest report 'FTTH in the Netherlands 2012'.

The market researcher estimates that the number of homes passed will triple to around 3 million by the end of 2016.  Reggefiber should still be market leader in 2016, although its share will be somewhat lower, at just over 80 percent. The percentage of activated homes taking services over the fibre networks reached 31.3 percent at the end of 2011, and this is expected to grow to 51 percent by 2016.

The FTTH report also offers details on developments per province and the latest news from the most important market players, such as Reggefiber and CIF, in the past year. Apart from its roll-out progress, Reggefiber's biggest news was the new shareholders agreement between KPN and Reggeborgh. CIF meanwhile has been buying up small cable operators.

Telecompaper also look at other developments in the past year, such as covering outlying areas, the focus on TV services in triple-play packages, increasing download speeds and areas where two or more players are rolling out fibre. The last issue includes details on the situation Overijssel, where Cogas/CIF and Reggefiber both have roll-out plans. The figure below shows the current situation (June 2012):
