
E-comms providers urge open consultation on data retention

European e-communications service providers have urged EU Justice and Home Affairs Ministers to pursue an open consultation with the industry before adopting any mandatory data retention measures. E-communications providers, through their trade associations, have been invited by the UK Presidency to share their concerns on the proposed measures to require e-communications operators to keep historical traffic data on all users for extensive periods. The industry urged the ministers not to hastily push measures that still require more reflection.
