EC scientists develop carbon footprint mobile application
European Commission (EC) scientists have launched a mobile application that uses a mobile phone to track a consumer's carbon footprint. The new mobGAS application is available in 21 European languages and allows mobile phone users to see how their daily choices impact on climate change. The smart technology was developed by scientists at the EC's Joint Research Centre and allows uses to see the implications of their daily lives in terms of three major greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Information about everyday activities is put into the application, and calculations made of individual emissions. A user diary of daily, weekly and yearly emissions can be registered on a secure website, allowing a comparison with national and world averages. MobGAS is now available free of charge and can be downloaded from mobgas.jrc.ec.europa.eu.
