EchoStar drops plans for formal bid for Inmarsat
Inmarsat has announced that EchoStar will not be making a formal offer for the company. The news comes after EchoStar renewed its attentions for Inmarsat with a fresh GBP 3.2 billion bid, which Inmarsat said was still too low. EchoStar had made an offer for the company earlier, which “significantly undervalued” the value of the company, Inmarsat said. 

After its first attempt, EchoStar said it would still try to find to find common ground with Inmarsat, with a view to buying. But it has now walked away from the deal. 

Inmarsat reiterated it was highly confident in the company’s independent strategy and prospects, given its track record, unique capabilities, differentiated market position and strong channels to market. The company will publish its results for the first half on 2 August.

The latest global Inflight Connectivity Survey from Inmarsat shows that in-flight Wi-Fi is a key driver of airline passenger loyalty and satisfaction. The survey, conducted by Populus, saw more than half (55%) of passengers describe in-flight Wi-Fi as crucial, and 54 percent willing to choose Wi-Fi over having an in-flight meal.

Echostar gaat geen nieuw bod op Inmarsat uitbrengen

Inmarsat heeft aangekondigd dat EchoStar geen formeel bod voor het bedrijf zal doen. Het nieuws komt nadat EchoStar zijn aandacht voor Inmarsat hernieuwde met een nieuw bod van GBP 3,2 miljard, waarvan Inmarsat zei dat het nog steeds te laag was. It believes a combination of EchoStar and Inmarsat is "strategically compelling." Eutelsat said it is considering making a takeover bid for rival satellite operator Inmarsat. The company did not comment on the possible value or terms of the bid, saying only that it "notes the recent speculation and confirms that it is currently evaluating a possible offer for Inmarsat".

Inmarsat said it has rejected a preliminary bid from Echostar. Without giving any financial details, Inmarsat said the offer "very significantly" undervalued Inmarsat and its standalone prospects. The company added that it remains highly confident in its independent strategy and prospects.
