EE has announced an agreement with OnePlus to become the first mobile operator worldwide to offer the OnePlus 5G smartphone in 2019. OnePlus made the announcement of EE as its 5G launch partner at the Qualcomm summit event in Hawaii.
EE and OnePlus are working on an R&D partnership to deliver the best 5G experience possible for customers, the UK operator said. EE plans to launch 5G services in 16 cities across the UK in 2019. The first phase of the launch will see 5G switched on in the busiest areas of London, Cardiff, Belfast, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
OnePlus hopes to launch its 5G phone before the end of May 2019, CEO Pete Lau told Cnet at the Qualcomm summit. The device will use sub-6 GHz spectrum and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and will form part of a separate line of devices from the expected OnePlus 7 next year.
