EIB grants Radiocom EUR 9.7 mln for development of digital TV project
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will grant a EUR 9.78 million loan to Romania's Radiocom to partially cover the financing of its digital terrestrial television project, according to local paper Ziarul Financiar citing BEI VP Andrew McDowell. The EIB's agreement is supported by the European Fund for Strategic Investments, the financial side of the “Juncker Plan.” The loan will finance the digitisation of the public service television in line with national and European policies, McDowell said.

With the project, Radiocom aims to create a digital TV network that will cover 94 percent of Romania's population and 81 percent of the country's surface. Radiocom, under the coordination of the Ministry of Communications and Information Society (MCSI), concluded in October a four-year framework agreement with the Romanian Television Society (SRTv) for the provision of services for the take-over, transport and broadcasting of public television programmes on terrestrial in digital format. According to its licence, Radiocom is the national operator in charge of the taking over, transport and broadcasting of public television programmes in digital terrestrial format, starting from 17 June 2015, through a transitional platform.
