Digital 9 Wireless, a wholly-owned subsidiary of investment company Digital 9 Infrastructure, has signed a conditional agreement to acquire a majority 56 percent stake in Tetra Ireland, which exclusively operates public safety wireless networks in the Republic of Ireland, from Eir for around EUR 76 million.
D9 Wireless may also have an opportunity to increase its stake to up to 100 percent, boosting the total amount payable to around EUR 136 million. As a result of this deal, Digital 9 has committed most of its available capital. This is the company's first investment in wireless infrastructure.
Tetra Ireland owns and operates the country's National Digital Radio Service (NDRS), with government public bodies accounting for around 97 percent of its customer base. This includes around 70 agencies with 24,000 active subscribers mainly across emergency services, public services and local government. The Irish government renewed its contract with Tetra Ireland to operate Ireland's public safety communications network in 2020.
