Ericsson buys billing metadata specialist MetraTech
Ericsson has agreed to acquire US-based MetraTech, a provider of metadata-based billing, commerce and settlement software. The acquisition, which includes all 140 employees at MetraTech, will add to Ericsson's existing billing products for telecom operators as well as expand its geographic presence in the US.

Ericsson said Metratech's products will help address the new revenue models developing in the IoT and XaaS sectors. Ericsson will gain capabilities to support customers, partners and suppliers in multiple industries and accelerate the creation and delivery of new value-added services. Customers can create fluid, personalized, multi-party agreements to meet unique business needs, something especially needed in industries undergoing technology or business model transformation, according to the company.

MetraTech was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Boston. The company's customer base extends across a range of industries in 150 countries. The acquisition is expected to close before the end of September. No financial details were disclosed.
