Ericsson invests in production facility in Poland

Ericsson announced a new production facility in Poland, in the town of Tczew in the Pomorskie region in Northern Poland. The company said that it plans to focus on 5G equipment at the new plant.

The production has already started, and the plant is planned to reach full capacity in the first quarter of 2020.

Around 2,000 staff work in R&D units of the company in the country, at units based in Lodz and Krakow.

Ericsson has chosen a strategic partner for its production activity, and the partner is expected to raise production of the 5G equipment.    

Ericsson noted that it's expanding its manufacturing capabilities to be close to its customers in Europe. This investment in production in Poland complements the company‘s existing European production site in Tallinn, Estonia. 

Ericsson has a global supply chain with manufacturing in several countries, including the US, China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Estonia and Poland.

Ericsson has concluded an agreement with the Poland R&D Institute of Communications and Lodz University of Technology. Ericsson said it will deploy 4G and 5G RAN networks for the Lodz University of Technology. The network segments, which will be based on a campus of the university, will be used for R&D purposes.

The factory will produce Advanced Antenna System radios to boost mobile network capacity and coverage, including rural coverage, as well as 5G radios for urban areas. The company underlined that both product lines will be necessary for rapid 5G deployments in North America.

Ericsson will subsequently combine this system with its own connectivity layer – adding machine learning and artificial intelligence to its production, enabling real-time data analytics and an end-to-end predictive automated manufacturing chain. As part of the recently signed local agreement, ABB will provide a fully automated flexible robot cell solution for final assembly of 5G radios.
