Ericsson, Qualcomm test LTE Category 9
Ericsson and Qualcomm announced they have completed the first interoperability test of LTE Category 9 connectivity, with download speeds of up to 450 Mbps. Testing was conducted using Ericsson's LTE-Advanced network infrastructure and Qualcomm's next-generation LTE-Advanced modem. Inter-company vendor interoperability testing between network and device is key to enabling large-scale commercial deployments. The companies did not say when they expect commercial Category 9 products to reach the market. The equipment used for the tests was based on Ericsson's commercially available 14B software release, supporting the company's RBS 6000 family of base stations.

Qualcomm to axe 600 jobs worldwide in 2015

Qualcomm is set to lay off around 600 employees next year as part of its restructuring plans. A company spokesperson told Cnet that around 300 workers would be cut from its California base, as well as a "similar number" of international employees.
