Ericsson targets more royalty revenues

Ericsson plans to earn more from its extensive portfolio of patents. The company counts 27,000 patents and expects it can monetize the intellectual property further thanks to the growing number of devices with wireless connectivity. Ericsson is reorganizing its Licensing and Patent Development department, and in future Chief Intellectual Property Officer Kasim Alfalahi, who currently reports to Ericsson's CTO, will report directly to CEO Hans Vestberg. The reorganization is effective immediately. Ericsson is already a net receiver of royalties and has signed more than 90 licence agreements. The company targets growing its IPR revenues past the SEK 4.6 billion generated in 2010.
