Etisalat appoints Al-Abdooli as group CEO

Etisalat Group has appointed Saleh Adbullah al-Abdooli as its CEO. Abdooli replaces Hatem Dowidar, who was appointed interim CEO earlier this month after Ahmad Julfar resigned for personal reasons. Al Abdooli will now manage the company's international operations as well as the local UAE operations, in a restructuring move.

Al Abdooli has over 25 years of experience in telecoms, most notably the successful establishment of Etisalat Misr in Egypt, of which he was CEO until 2012. He then became CEO of Etisalat UAE.

His also the deputy chairman of the board, chairman of the executive committee for Etisalat Misr, chairman of Etisalat Services Holding Company and chairman of Thuraya. He was most recently appointed as Etisalat's representative in Mobily's board.

Etisalat introduces New Business Ultimate mobile plan

Etisalat has announced the launch of its New Business Ultimate mobile plan, offering small and medium-sized enterprise customers (SMEs) larger data allowances and options to meet their connectivity needs. The new monthly plan also offer the latest smartphones and devices as an add-on with no upfront charge. Starting from AED100 per month, and with data allowance up to 12 GB, Etisalat's flexible New Business Ultimate plan offer voice minutes, including flexi-minutes for national and international calling.

Etisalat Misr, Huawei try out Super Dual Band technology

Etisalat Misr and Huawei have announced the world's first live traffic application using 'Super Dual Band' microwave technology. They said it achieved 6.19 Gbps over a relatively long distance of 3.37 kilometres in the Alexandria region. The system bonds the traditional frequency (6-42 GHz) together with E-band (71-86 GHz) in a unique manner, offering increased protection via special link aggregation techniques and advanced Quality of Service mechanisms.

Thuraya shareholders elects Al Abdooli as chairman

Thuraya has announced the election of former Etisalat CEO Saleh Al Abdooli as its new chairman. Al Abdooli joined Thuraya's board at a board meeting. Al Abdooli is also the Deputy Chairman of the board, Chairman of the Executive Committee for Etisalat Misr, and a board member for Etisalat Services Holding Company. He was recently appointed as Etisalat's representative on the Mobily board.

Etisalat Group FY revenue up 7% to AED 51.7 bln

Etisalat Group reported revenues up 7 percent to AED 51.7 billion for 2015, led by a strong performance in its home market and the takeover of Maroc Telecom. UAE revenues rose 6 percent to AED 28.8 billion, thanks to customer growth and more sales of bundled packages. The company's net profit fell to AED 8.3 billion from AED 8.6 billion in 2014, and EBITDA totalled AED 26.5 billion, resulting in an EBITDA margin of 51 percent. Etisalat picks OT to launch IoT services in Egypt

Oberthur Technologies (OT) announced its collaboration with Egypt operator Etisalat Misr to launch M2M and IoT services. Relying on OT's M-Sense solution, a software platform enabling fast service deployment, Etisalat Misr will enable its enterprise customers to launch new M2M and IoT services. This partnership is a concrete outcome of the Frame Agreement signed between OT and Etisalat Group in July 2015. Etisalat Misr cuts internet but needs NTRA approval

Etisalat Misr has reduced its ADSL prices and improved its internet tariffs temporarily, the Daily News Egypt reported. This follows a loss of customers that it blames on monopolistic practices by Telecom Egypt (TE) in the supply and installation of multi-service access node (MSAN) units and new fibre optic lines.
